Defining the field!

  1. It's not unusual for pre-k classes to have very limited access to technology. I know there is a huge debate over the developmental and monetary appropriateness of putting expensive technology in the hands of such young children. With that said, I am constantly amazed at how much my two year old nephew already knows and can do on an iPad or iPhone. He knows how to unlock both devices, find his folder, and choose the game or video he wants to play. He can exit out of the game and choose another one, and he can call both of his grandparents. He's a pro at two years old, and I sometimes wonder how I raised my children without such handy little devices. Sure, it has an entertainment factor for long car rides and Sunday afternoon lunches, but the games he plays are very educational in nature. He is able to experience a whole different world than my children did at that age. It's pretty amazing. I am definitely in favor of giving pre-k students and teachers access to educational technology. After all, many of them have access to it, at least to some degree, at home.
